Do you ever notice how shiny your hair looks in pictures? Or how, when you come from the salon, how your strands seem to shimmer? Well, when youíre seeing shine, the reflection of light is actually a part of it. The flash on your camera certainly reflects on your hair. And your stylist may have blown out your locks, so light and airy, that the light shines through them.
But, even if you're not standing in front of a camera or coming straight from the salon, you can create that same kind of shine at home. Here are three tips to help your hair shine every day:
1. Brush, Brush, Brush
Did your grandmother ever tell you that she brushed her hair 100 strokes every night? Well, if she did, she wasnít that far off. Brushing your hair every day will add natural shine and help keep your hair healthy. When you brush your strands, you redistribute your hairís natural oil from your scalp down to the ends. These oils will help soften and shine your cuticle. A popular brush to create shine is one with boar bristles to evenly distribute oils.
2. Eat, Drink, and Be Shiny
Just like your body needs water to stay healthy and hydrated, so do your hair. Water helps restore shine and moisture to your hair. Eating healthy foods, like Vitamin E and essential oils, will help keep your hair shiny, as well. Getting enough Vitamin E, in foods like nuts, olives, spinach and avocado will bring out the shine in your hair. Canola, soybean, and sunflower oils in your diet will also maintain shine.
3. Pick the Right Products
Many things contribute to dryness and frizz, which make it impossible to have shiny hair. If you have chemically treated and processed hair, itís probably already prone to looking dull and dry. Using a shampoo and conditioner that are made for chemically treated hair can not only help protect your color, but also seal in moisture that chemicals can strip. You can also use a shampoo like Alfaparf Illuminating Shampoo that is designed to add shine. Make sure and use a conditioner after every time you wash it (or just the ends if your hair is fine or oily), to help bring shine. Also, rinsing your hair in tepid or cool water will help seal your cuticle to create silky, shiny strands.
There are plenty of protects to choose from when you're looking to add shine. A deep, essential oil that penetrates the cuticle like Aphogee's Essential Oil will help replenish moisture and bring back shine. You can also use a topical treatment like Goldwell's Shine Spray to coat the cuticle and enhance shine.
