-Before you begin, read all the instructions completely to get the results you want as easily and safely as possible.
-Gather your materials: Perm kit, Plastic comb, Any deep cleansing shampoo, Petroleum Jelly, Cotton or cotton balls, Water bottle with sprayer to keep hair moist, Old bath size towel, Plastic perm rods (at least 30), Do not use metal rods or sponge rollers, Scissors, Mirror, Clock or timer, Rubber gloves, Plastic pins or clips.
-Choose the right perm rods for your hair type and length. The size of the rod determines the tightness of your perm, not the length of the time the solution is on your hair. Use larger rods for body, body waves and curls. Use smaller rods for tighter curls.
-Shampoo and thoroughly rinse your hair. Do not use a conditioner after you shampoo. Towel dry your hair and leave it damp for perming. Cover you neck and shoulders with a large, dry towel. Do not perm in a cool or drafty area.
-Follow perming directions on package insert.
